BRIC/REC Flax Fibers and Composites
Registration required - event is FULL.
Join us in this collaboration event between BRIC (Brown RISD Innovation Community) and REC ( Regenerative Earth Collective) on Flax.
Flax, also known as common flax or linseed, is a flowering plant, Linum usitatissimum. It is cultivated as a food and fiber crop in regions of the world with temperate climates. Flax fiber is extracted from the bast or skin of the stem of the flax plant and used in many cultures for textile goods. In this lecture/workshop, REC manager Clara Boberg will present their experience processing and planting these flax fibers. BRIC biomaterial advisor, Pei-Yu, will be hosting a workshop right after on flax fiber composite. She will be leading the workshop in creating different composites that use the leftover short fibers from yarn spinning.
