Lunch & Learn: Virtual Presence, or the Art of Almost Being There
**Open to all current RISD students/faculty/staff**
Join the Nature Lab for our next Lunch & Learn, featuring the transdisciplinary artist Stewart Skylar Copeland!
"Virtual Presence, or the Art of Almost Being There" explores the tension between immersion and detachment in virtual environments. Drawing on personal work and research, this talk examines how vast, virtual landscapes can leave us feeling more "surrounded" than truly present, challenging the traditional notions of immersion and the psychological state of "being there."
Stewart Skylar Copeland is an artist with a passion for emergent media, new narrative genres, and artistic research. He is a professor in Experimental Art & Technology at the University of New Mexico and the director of UNM's ARTSLab, an award-winning interdisciplinary center for emerging media with an emphasis on immersive and interactive technology. Stewart is also the co-creator of VIS-A-THON and received his MFA in Digital + Media at RISD.
Space for this event is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Food and drinks will be served.
